Adding the Twitter Tweet Button to WordPress

Update 8/13/2010 – there is now a plug in called Twitter Tweet Button 1.0 that can be installed and enabled via WordPress Plugins. I am still using this original method described below because for me the formatting is off with the button.

I recorded this screencast for people who don’t want to wait for a decent plugin for the Twitter Tweet Button. There are some ways to add this to the single post template manually but with my template it was a complete nightmare to do. Until a plugin is released I this might help you add the new button to your WordPress blog:

This video does provide information on how to use the append plugin to add code or text to every page/post or both:

Interview Diane Rayfield Harp Social (Podcast)

Tonight I interviewed Diane Rayfield of Harp Social on Blogtalkradio. I invited Diane because I wanted to integrate more social media related guests into my podcast. Diane is the founder and CEO of Harp Social where she leads a team of social media, SEO and online marketing professionals to strategize, manage and evolve integrated online marketing for businesses. I met Diane at Amplify.com a social networking site that I have blogged about frequently. I always enjoy talking social media with people like Diane because I learn from them and the energy is upbeat and inspiring. Diane and I really covered a lot of ground during the interview, but her area of expertise is Strategy, Metrics and Inbound Marketing – “Getting Found”. Here are some highlight areas you can expect to learn more about if you listen to the entire episode:

  1. Location Based Marketing (Yelp, Foursquare and Gowalla)
  2. Monitoring/Metrics (Radian6, Google Alerts, Social Mention and Hootsuite)
  3. Amplify.com
  4. Facebook Pages
  5. Video Marketing (Including Youtube)
  6. Social Media Policies
  7. LinkedIn (Including Answers, Groups)
  8. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  9. Turning Point Autism Foundation

You can follow Diane on Twitter @dianerayfield or visit harpsocial.com to learn more about her company.

New Menu Feature in WordPress 3 makes it a much better CMS

This new menu feature even though it is likely to change a lot before the actual release is really promising. This is a major limitation for WordPress as a content management system today. This is a very positive step. In this video I demonstrate how to use this feature:

Manual Upgrade to WordPress 3 (Video)

Last night I learned about the Beta of the new Word Press Version 3 Beta 1. Being a bit adventurous I tested upgrading a couple of blog sites to the new version to check it out. I was not able to find a simple path to do it without using an ftp client so I thought it would be useful to record a screencast of the procedure. Here it is:

If you know of an easier way, please share it via comments.

With an Abundance of tools my Internet use evolves (podcast)

Today while exchanging some tweets with @simbeckhampson I recognized that my social media and web footprint has evolved over time and in the process different tools have been useful for different things:

  1. Facebook is where most of my real life friends are. I also find it more personal interaction wise.
  2. I get news from Twitter, share news and interesting info. More informal interaction wise.
  3. Blogtalkradio has opened up a nice niche for conversations with interesting people.
  4. Cinchcast – I love to call in and get ideas out while driving then I share it later.
  5. Youtube – I am big on screencasts and moving towards more personal messages (videos of me mixed in)
  6. Amplify – I am making new friends, sharing more what I am reading more and selectively share to FB, Twitter, etc.

These aren’t all the tools I use, for me the key is really the data that comes in via Email. I need to re-evaluate my use of Google Reader and RSS also for incoming information. Here is the podcast that was inspired by my conversations with Paul:

4 Step Custom 3D Tag Cloud Page Using WP and Cumulus

This is an instructional video on how to create a large or customized tag cloud on an individual page on a WordPress based website. The concept is relatively simple:

  1. WP-Cumulus is a Plugin/Widget, install the plug-in first.
  2. Customize WP-Cumulus on the Widget Page any size/colors.
  3. Viewing the source of your page you will grab the code to.
  4. Create a new page and use the source code from step 3.
