In my recent post about tagging people on Facebook there was a robust discussion that occurred that was largely not related to the post but was actually centered around the Livefyre comment system itself. In this video I explain how and why that occurred and how you can use the system to bring more readers to your blog.
I have been using Livefyre for about two weeks. Although I have only scratched the surface of its capabilities, I can say it has increased my web traffic
ellie1912 that's great Ellie. Sorry I missed your comment originally. Hope you are well.
Livefyre is great! Interesting read.
Doesn't Disqus just implemented this some days ago?
Does anyone think I should move from Disqus to liveFyre?
go2linux
ggarron I'm not aware of recent Disqus changes, and by "this" which feature are you referring to?
As to switching, that's really up to you. I would not personally advocate someone switch unless I knew their situation. It definitely wouldn't hurt to try it out. That is easy enough to do - disable the existing comment plugin (if there is one) and install and enable Livefyre.
Good luck to you and let me know which feature you meant :)
hackmanj ggarron Hi, the feature I was talking about is the one that you can mention some twitter friend just naming it in the comment..
Just like here, after reading your post I tried out in Disqus and worked the same.
ggarron hackmanj I think that's relatively new to Disqus - in fact, I know it is. I think they saw what Livefyre is doing and decided they needed to keep up...
Shonali hackmanj Sure, that's the way it is, and with its bigger user base, now it will be more difficult to Livefyre to be on top. disqus
I'm really intrigued with the Livefyre approach to social commenting. I just wrote up a comparison of Disqus, IntenseDebate, and Livefyre on my blog: http://fatwalr.us/2011/05/compare-commenting-systems-disqus-vs-intensedebate-vs-livefyre/ . I'd be interested to hear feedback. I currently use Disqus, but I really like the social components that Livefyre is bringing to the table.
LukeCoburn The strength of Livefyre is the community managers and the extra juice your blog gets by simply using the system. I also personally like the Twitter feature to shout out to others when you are leaving a comment.
This is funny. I just blogged about Livefyre winning me over vs Disqus on several fronts. And shocking to see JMattHicks and jennalanger pop up here! LOL
HowieSPM JMattHicks jennalanger they are awesome, aren't they?
Hey Joe, thanks for the video. Yesterday it looked as if Livefyre dropped my comment on your Facebook tagging post, but it's possible that I wasn't signed in and closed out the tab without noticing the warning. I remember logging in weeks ago when I first heard about Livefyre from dannybrown Today, I logged in with Twitter, but for some reason it picked up my old Twitter Avatar. I tried to update the image but it keeps reverting back. :(
What I have on my wish list is for Amplify to integrate a commenting system like CommentLuv or Livefire. Probably asking for too much, but it would be pretty cool, don't you think?
As you know, I'm a CommentLuv Ambassador so my first instinct is to compare it with Livefyre and there are a few things I'd like to point out. One of the biggest advantages of CommentLuv is that you get a chance to show off your last post that's true. But when you're a CommentLuv member you add your RSS feed to your account and you get to pick from a list of posts that you would like to link to in your signature. The minimum is 10 but you can earn credits and add even more to the list. So when I comment on a post, I can be sure to link to an article that is related to the post, not just my last one.
I've earned so many credits at this point I have 3 blogs - including Amplify - and over 40 posts to choose from. There's more benefits to CommentLuv, but that would be a whole blog post (I have an entire arsenal if you want more info) LOL!
All that being said, I do think Livefyre is an alternative that people should look at when they are weighing the options. It sure beats Disqus. :)
One more thing, I tried to tag Danny in this comment but I'm not sure if it worked. I'll try again now DannyBrown
Ileane DannyBrown I've had some minor quirks with LiveFyre since I started using it too but not too many lately. Commentluv has some rich features it sounds like that I definitely have not yet seen.
Did you get the popup to tweet your mention to Danny? That is the coolest feature, I love it. I find it similarly useful to the @ mention feature in comments on Amplify. At one point I suggested to Eric Goldstein that they should use LiveFyre on Amplify but I think they have a pretty cool system as well. Definitely room for enhancements, but isn't that almost always the case? :)
Sorry for the slow response to your comment and thanks for hanging in there to post it again, much appreciated!
Joe
Thanks for this video, Joe. I will definitely be referencing it and this post anytime someone wants an explanation for what Livefyre does. It is easy to understand "bringing in" people to a conversation, as you put it, by seeing it in action. I'm glad you appreciate all that jennalanger and jmatthicks are doing to facilitate you experience with the system; I'm certainly learning a lot from them and sincerely appreciate working with them and bloggers such as yourself that are using the system.
JonHearty jennalanger jmatthicks Thanks Jon, I am glad you like the video. Kudos to your staff for showing up today, it is greatly appreciated!
Grrrreat video, Joe, and no, that was not a typo. This is the second day in a row you've made an example of me, LOL. Nooo, don't stop (unless it's bad. :p).
I totally love livefyre , even though I've had it less than a week. I find the community managers like JMattHicks really responsive. I had an issue with LF messing up one of the other plugins I really like, the WordPress editorial calendar, created by zack grossbart . I'd pinged Zack about it, and when he rummaged around on my blog, he figured out what the problem was and why it was happening. I put him in touch immediately with the LF crew this morning - and it was fixed a few hours ago. How's that for customer service and creating evangelizers, eh? Thank you again, ginidietrich for getting me "bumped up" the queue!
Really, really cool. And I will say, in just a few days of using it, it is already helping to generate more comments and engagement on my blog, as hannush has seen too. Perhaps part of that is the posts are good (LOL), but I do believe LF has a lot to do with it as well.
Shonali Wow, that is truly an awesome responsiveness. I love to see that kind of reaction. It reminds me a bit of egoldstein and his crew at Amplify! That is a great thing to see for sure.
Ok so you will be an example henceforth, it will be our ongoing joke. :)
JMattHicks Aw. Mutual admiration society, then. :) hackmanj I'm laughing already... hahahahah!hannush
hackmanjShonaliegoldstein
Thanks for the shout out and compliment Joe. You are doing an awesome job educating people about powerful ways to make their online experience better. Kudos to you!
egoldstein I think hackmanj deserves his own theme song. Who's writing it?
Shonali egoldstein lol, now there is an idea! Too funny.
JMattHicks hackmanj my pleasure Jeremy, it's always fun and exciting to work with energetic dedicated companies like LiveFyre. Seeing new cool things being created is very enjoyable for me. Appreciate the professionalism and engagement from you and the rest of your co-workers.
JMattHicks You're a Rock Star now! That's awesome, happy to have been the first to mention you Jeremy. Certainly not the last.
Thanks so much for the awesome review Joe! jmatthicks and I have learned so much from all of our bloggers and we're having a blast doing it. We're here to answer any questions, and send out invites to bloggers who want to try Livefyre on their site :) Thanks again for all your feedback and your great blog posts, we'll be here watching!
jennalanger jmatthicks you're welcome, you might want to review the comment I just left in response to hannush.
Nice to see another blogger using LiveFyre. I have to say, when I first saw it on spinsucks.com, I thought it was a brilliant idea. It really fosters the idea of creating a community of bloggers. The team in charge of livefyre also knows they need to help foster this community as well, so they actively help bloggers by commenting and promoting.
I have been running it for a month and for the first time, I have been getting consistent responses to my blog posts. It makes me feel blogging is worth while again (for more than just getting keywords on your site). It also showed me the value of commenting on others blogs.
Thanks for the tutorials. I didn't comment on the tagging one, but I did share it with others. Good stuff.
hannush livefyre thanks for sharing my posts hannush I am glad you've also found livefyre useful to encourage interaction on your blog. Some tools just make a little more sense than others. I was thinking about livefyre more while I was driving today and I think above all else the community managers are their competitive edge right now. It's a different approach for sure!
hackmanj hannush You guys are really what make this job so awesome. Thanks for making our day :)
Morning, Joe! I am a huge Livefyre fan, but have not been sent the magic email yet saying that I can use it. So, in the interim, I'm using Disqus, which was very easy to load and will make life happy until livefyre comes along. If I were a strategist (and I am) I would continue to comment on the livefyre supported blogs out there, engage some of the managers, and up the ante on my own blog and post more often! Thanks for the nudge.
EricaAllison Glad your such a fan Erica - this comment deserves a like and a beta invite :)
jennalanger Thanks, Jenna! I appreciate the invite! Loaded and ready to go! Thanks much! :-)
EricaAllison looks like you didn't need much of a nudge and thanks to jennalanger for being responsive. Can you paste a link to your blog Erica? I want to make sure I have it in Google reader. Thanks!
EricaAllison Welcome aboard! The folks at livefyre prove where social media is going. Building relationships, friendships and helping each other succeed.
hackmanj I look forward to being introduced to your blog...you do a nice job of using the instructional video format...short and pithy.
By the way, I get to give back a little, if you didn't know. If you click on on Erica's avatar, you'll see a link for her Full Profile and her blog is listed in there. I'm hoping livefyre will make the avatar in the popup window default to the moderated site if possible. hint hint
hannush EricaAllison hackmanj Thanks for the hint hannush :) If you visit your user settings page (http://livefyre.com/users/account/) you can change the URL that shows up in the profile hover card. We'll look into other ways to display related sites so we can promote other bloggers as much as possible. As Joe mentioned, we're working on adding similar functionality to CommentLuv as well. Thanks again for the feedback!
hannush EricaAllison livefyre excellent point hannush, based on your observations I would also add it to the list of tools for new bloggers if it was out of beta. Any system that does as you've suggested is worthy of that. More importantly the mechanisms and people around it, of course.
Glad you enjoy the video format, I've been using it more in response to feedback I've gotten. It is a real time saver for me as well.
Excellent point about finding the blog in the profile, honestly I had not looked. I wanted to give Erica the opportunity to share her blog in the comment section as well hoping others might take a peak too. I would also like you to do the same please.
When the "recent blog post" feature is rolled out this will be less critical. For now we'll work around it! :)
hackmanj hannush livefyre I step away for a few hours and look what's happened! Enlightenment and encouragement! Thanks. Here's my blog link: allisondevelopmentgroup.com/blog. Enjoy! And Comment with abandon!
hackmanj Glad to do it...I appreciate the exposure. Feel free to do the same on my blog. Its community after all. Thank you, Drew

EricaAllison hannush livefyre Thanks Erica, I really enjoyed your post yesterday. Good stuff :)
hannush Thanks Drew, it was excellent connecting with you this week here, on your blog, Twitter and Blogtalkradio! :)
