I have a tremendous amount of respect for analysts. I define analysts as people who use scientific and effective approaches to find meaning from data. These folks provide a lot of value to people who operate more from the hip and in ad hoc groups. I have the utmost respect for people who are so dedicated to this science that they will go out of their way to limit bias and ensure the best possible quality of the analysis. Through a recent exercise on this blog I became familiarized with a new (for me) blog that caters to this type of process – Open Intelligence.
While reviewing the article “Self Signifying Intelligence” I realized what a great resource it was for people performing analysis of social networks. I have to confess it was a challenging read for me and I am not sure I completely understand everything the article covers. I was able to surmise the following:
- The importance of looking at the patterns in the data rather than the content.
- The importance of trying to reduce/eliminate bias and stick to scientific methods.
Those two points were my take a ways. I really enjoyed the examples given about specific research near the end of the article.
